This Is My First Post This Week Because...

... of The Walking Dead. I'm not kidding.

Christian and I started watching the first season earlier this week {and we just started Season 2 yesterday, so NO SPOILERS in the comments, please!}, and I think it's safe to say that both of us are obsessed. After we watched the pilot on Tuesday night, we went to bed and I had nightmares. I woke up the next morning and told Christian that I was fine if he kept watching it, as long as I never had to see it again. By the time he got home from work on Wednesday, however, I was ready for another episode.

As afraid of the dark and nightmare-prone as I am, I can't stop watching. I get freaked out almost every night, but I'm hoping that will go away after a while. When I nurse Lucy to sleep at night, I rock her and think things like, "What if a zombie came in here right now? How would I defend us?" {answer: beat it in the head with the tank of Lucy's humidifier} and "If I got bitten and infected, what would I do then? Spend as much time as possible with my kids, or leave and donate my body to science?" {there is no good answer to this question}.

I know I need to be better about budgeting my time, but it's hard with TV this good. Are you a Walking Dead fan? {Be advised, if you don't watch it yet but you're interested: Christian and I both agree it's grosser than Breaking Bad.}

P.S. Here's a video of Andrew Lincoln {who plays Rick Grimes} on Jimmy Fallon if you want to hear his British accent. And here's a clip of him being adorable in Love Actually.

  1. Oh my gosh. As soon as I saw the first line of this post I said out loud, "MARYSLASTCHANCE WATCHES THIS SHOW?". (side note: I always call bloggers by their twitter names. It's just a thing I do.)

Anyways, this show is just too much for me. My sister is also obsessed (and also just finished season 2-- she started the whole thing on Monday! This past Monday!) and every time I walk into the room while she's watching it, I immediately have to walk right out. It's horrifying.

But gosh everyone is talking about it! Everyone! So maybe I will have to give it a try after all. Because, really, who am I to deny good TV?

P.S. I read this post aloud to my sister and she LOVED IT. Laughed out loud and was like "yesyesyes!!".

    1. Haha! I call you nannerburns, so no problem. It is so intense, and SO gross and SO violent, I don't blame you at all for not watching. I have to look away at some point during each episode because I just can't take it.

I loved that you read this post to your sister. LOVED it. :)

  2. Mary! It's Meg, Anna's sister!! I was dying laughing while Anna read me this post. I too vowed to never watch it after the first episode and I then watched it non-stop for a week. And I too have been plagued by Zombie dreams. I had a dream the other night that a zombie tried to attack me. It was a kid I went to high school with (whom I haven't thought about in ten years) and I got him in the eye with some sharp object and was quite satisfied. Horrifying, right? As much as I loved it I'm glad to be back to my regular benign tv line up like The Bachelor and Pretty Little Liars!

    1. Yes, those are the kinds of dreams I have! I had one where our family all turned into zombies one by one, and then we all lie down together in a pile and died. What is that??

How do you like Pretty Little Liars? I've thought about watching it before, but I'm not sure if I would enjoy it.

I'm so glad you loved the post & left a comment. Thanks!!

  3. I'm obsessed too! I am always a little shy to admit it, because....well, it is pretty violent. :)

    1. Yes, so violent! But so good! I can't stop watching {and then looking away, and then watching again}. I'm glad to know I'm not alone. :)

  4. I love the show! We actually watched the pilot when it aired, and I was so freaked out and grossed out that I refused to watch any more episodes. We started season 1 again just before season 2 came out, and we were hooked! I still often watch with my hands half-covering my eyes, but I can't stop watching!

    1. It's so good, right? Most shows I watch don't get into my head the way this one does, it's crazy!

    1. I'm in Durham, my husband is doing his MBA at duke. We've loved it out here so far!

    2. Wow, you're super close! Duke is an incredible school. I'm glad that you love it; this place is close to my heart. :)

  6. This is only a minor spoiler: the best way to defend yourself from a zombie is a samurai sword. Maybe the kids could get swords for their birthdays so they don't feel left out?

    1. I would have said crossbow, but a samurai sword can be used an {almost} infinite number of times, so I'll agree with you. I think we're getting them an easel for their birthday, though, so... maybe swords next year.

  7. We started this show on the very first episode (we even watched it live, which we never do). Steve has a thing for scary movies & zombies and had the show marked on his calendar of important things to do weeks in advance. I told him I would watch the first episode, but no guarantees after that (this is constant situation in our house). I was horrified but definitely interested enough to keep watching. And I am totally hooked. I don't know why I tolerate it better than breaking bad (which I couldn't get into after the debacle with the bath tub) but I'm no stranger to questionable movie/tv content.

Anyway. I'm glad your loving it & hope your zombie dreams normalize soon. If I watch too much of anything, I dream about it. Last night, I totally dreamt about Downton because I binged in the last few episodes of the season once Steve admitted he wasn't interested in finishing it with me.

    1. I think that from now on I'm just trusting AMC shows to be incredibly awesome and watching them from the get-go.

Downton is an entirely different conversation that we need to have. Ugh.

    2. I know. I'm afraid season 3 was one long and painful misstep. I still enjoy it, but the direction it went & the characters they killed off... And don't get me started on Baits in jail - boring! I hope they can find their footing next season when hopefully contract troubles won't be forcing them to kill every likeable character. I think once all the Crawley daughters were paired off, they didn't know what to do with themselves.
